Shillong, Mar 27: Two poachers including a lady were detained by the police on Tuesday in Ri Bhoi border.
Ro Bhoi police chief Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said on March 26 around 9 30 am information was received that some miscreants armed with weapons were seen moving near the jungle area of Ranibari village. Immediately IC Rani BOP alongwith staff rushed to the area . While moving inside the jungle area , the miscreants fired upon the police party.As there were children and women nearby , the police party did not resort to any retaliatory firing but rushed behind the miscreants . During the search operation, 2 people namely Ajit Rabha and Kavita Rabha, both 18 years were detained . During preliminary interrogation, both revealed to be members of a gang involved in theft of sal trees, bikes, betel nuts and others. The leader of the gang has been identified as Rudra Rabha , the step father of Ajit Rabha. Further, during the search of the house of Ajit Rabha, a country made SBML firearm was recovered alongwith gunpowder used for ammunition. Police are still continuing combing operations in the area to locate the miscreants. A case is being registered at Khanapara PS as per appropriate sections of law.
