UDP accepts resignation of Kharjahrin, refutes division

Shillong, June 5: UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh has accepted the resignation of party vice president Robertjune Kharjahrin, and downplayed division in the party.
Kharjahrin was the RDA candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
“Everyone has the freedom to think as they like. I would also like to clear any doubts that are not clear in people’s minds,” Lyngdoh told reporters on Friday when asked about Kharjahrin’s exit.
“We have received his resignation letter citing reasons. From the party’s side, we have nothing more to say. We respect his decision and have accepted his resignation,” he said.
Lyngdoh dismissed speculation of a rift following the resignation.
“There is no division. As I said, we have received his resignation letter, so I don’t see any differences within the party as you suggest. I don’t see anything like that,” he said.
On concerns raised by the UDP Shillong City District unit, he said party matters should be handled internally.
“Everyone has the right to express their views or concerns about party decisions. There is always a platform within the party for dialogue, interaction, and consultation on any matter related to party affairs,” Lyngdoh said.
He confirmed that a letter from the Shillong City unit had been leaked but said the issue was resolved.
“The letter you mentioned was from UDP Shillong City and was leaked, from whatever source,” he said. “But this is an internal matter of the party. We have sorted it out. I personally met the Shillong City unit and everything has been settled.” he added.
