Umiam water level lowest in history, plant may face closure
Shillong, May 16: With water level at Umiam lake touching the lowest in the history of state, the power department may shut down the plant if the situation deteriorates further.
“We are now at 3165 feet, which is the lowest in history and the plant at Umiam will be shut down if the water level in the reservoir recedes by one feet, Power Minister AT Mondal told reporters on Tuesday.
Umiam bridge to be retrofitted
The minister along with power generation officials and a team of IIT Guwahati visited Umiam bridge as part of its renovation.
Mondal said the budget will be retrofitted and when the work will be taken up, the bridge will be closed for atleast six days but light vehicles can pass through the bridge.
He said alternate route will be arranged.
