USTM gets 150-ft national tricolour flag

Shillong,June 16: The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) unveiled a monumental 150-ft National Tricolour Flag at its sprawling Knowledge Park, on Tuesday marking the installllllllllation of one of the tallest National Flags in the region.
In a statement 6The landmark initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the DK Flag Foundation, Mumbai, stands as a powerful symbol of national unity, patriotism, and USTM’s unwavering commitment to nation-building and youth empowerment.
The flag was ceremonially hoisted by the team from the DK Flag Foundation, led by Dr Rakesh Bakshi, alongside USTM Women NCC Cadets and members. Adding grandeur and solemnity to the occasion, the Meghalaya Police Band from the 1st MLP Battalion, Mawiong, Shillong, under the command of Herbert G. Lyngdoh, IPS, presented a stirring patriotic performance.
The celebration was enriched by a vibrant display from the SFS School Girls Band, Narengi. The entire gathering stood united during the National Anthem, creating a deeply emotional and inspiring atmosphere. The ceremony was further graced by Prof. G. D. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, USTM; Shri Orville Massar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Ri-Bhoi; Shri Anil Bisht, DIG, CRPF; Dr Sanjay Deshmukh, Former Vice-Chancellor, University of Mumbai; and Shri Mahbubul Hoque, Hon’ble Chancellor, USTM.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rakesh Bakshi, popularly known as the flagman of India, lauded the installation of the monumental tricolour and mentioned that ” I chose the USTM for the installation of this monumental National Tricolour because USTM truly reflects the values of integrity, discipline, inclusiveness, and nation-building.
DK Flag Foundation, founded by Mumbai-based industrialist and patriot Dr. Rakesh Bakshi, the DK Flag Foundation is a non-profit initiative dedicated to promoting respect for the Indian National Flag and fostering patriotism among citizens. The Foundation works to make the Tricolour a visible and accessible symbol of national pride by installing monumental flags across the country and creating awareness about the Flag Code of India.
Over the years, the Foundation has facilitated the installation of several iconic flag masts at prominent locations, including the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai, the University of Mumbai, Haj House, Ratnagiri Collectorate, and other public institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Mahbubul Hoque thanked DK Flag Foundation for choosing USTM to take the responsibility of hoisting the tallest national flag in the region.
Established in 2011, the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) is the first state private university in the field of Science and Technology in North East India. The University was accredited with an ‘A Grade’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its first cycle of assessment in 2021.
