Shillong , Sept 11: Raksamgre MLA from the NPP, Limison Sangma, who will be elected as the new Deputy Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, said he would play a neutral role in the House.
In an interview, before he was elected Deputy Speaker on September 12, Limison said he would try to look after the interests of all the MLAs in the House, irrespective of party affiliations, as he would act neutrally.
The 62-year-old legislator thanked the Opposition members for their support, as they did not put up any candidate.
Limison said it was surprising for him to know that he was selected by the party for the post
Limison started his political career with the Congress, being part of the Tikrikilla Block Congress Committee. Before that, he was actively involved with GSU and FKJGP.
He contested as an independent and won the Tikrikilla seat in 2008, followed by the next victory in 2013 from the delimited Raksamgre constituency on a Congress ticket.
In 2018, he unsuccessfully contested the seat but in 2023, he won from Raksamgre on the NPP ticket.
