Will try to bring back Lapang to Congress: Pala

Shillong, Nov 15: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent Pala has said he would not give up in his efforts to bring back former Congress leader DD Lapang to the party.

NPP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had claimed that Lapang, who is currently the chief adviser to MDA government, will stick with the NPP.

The Shillong MP told reporters that the party workers from Ri Bhoi had requested Lapang to come back because he was a mentor to most of them including Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem and Mawhati MDC Charles Marngar.

“I have not met or talked to Lapang personally on this issue. But I will talk to him seriously,” Pala said.

The Congress president expressed confidence that Lapang will change his mind depending on the situation.

“Lapang as we know, his mind and heart is always with the Congress but because of certain reasons, he left the party,” he said.

Pala said he would take up the matter with the party high command.

“I will talk to the high command on this issue. Until and unless I get clearance from the high command, until and unless they agree, I don’t want to say much because I have not talked to him…I am very keen to have Lapang with us,” he said.

“As president, I am not giving up. We also have to discuss in the party with senior leaders as I am yet to call a meeting on this issue. So first will discuss among us and will put a note to the high command and if all of them agree then definitely, we will do but to me personally I will love to see Lapang comes back with us as he will be an asset for the party in the future,” Pala added.
