Work on Shillong-Dawki road to continue
Shillong, May 13: Despite the natural calamities, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) will continue with the construction of the 95- kilometer Shillong-Dawki road project.
“We have already instructed the NHIDCL to continue the work as we would like to see that this project is completed at the earliest. Therefore, wherever possible to work wherever the portion which is feasible for working even during rainy season they can do so but they need to be cautious so that unwanted incidents should be avoided in totality,” Tynsong told reporters.
However, he said the project is expected to be completed within the targeted timeline of 2024.
Vehicles stranded
The deputy chief minister said many vehicles were stranded due to a landslide at Rngain along the Shillong-Dawki road.
However, within two hours, the engineers, SDO along with the contractors cleared the road.
“We have instructed the NHIDCL to be proactive, always their engineers should be at site in case there is any landslide at least we should clear it at the shortest possible time,” he said.
Flood at Guwahati-Shillong road
Regarding the flood along the Shillong-Guwahati road, the deputy chief minister said that the government is in touch with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) which has been entrusted with the task to maintain the road.
The issue of flood and water clogging in Nongpoh was raised by the local MLA.
