World Tourism Day celebrated at NEHU

Shillong, Sep 27: The Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, North-Easter Hill University, organised World Tourism Day 2022 on the theme ‘Rethinking Tourism’ at the multi-convention hall of the university on Tuesday.

The programme started with the welcome speech of Dr. Benjamin Lyngdoh, head in-charge, and the theme was introduced by Prof. SK Dixit, registrar in-charge.

Chief guest Padmashri Prof. Badaplin War highlighted on the importance of preservation and promotion of cultural tourism.

The highlight of the day-long programme was the panel discussion on the issues of carrying capacity, women empowerment, lack of common portal for accommodations and related infrastructure, policy implementation and the need to focus on niche tourism like cuisines and wellness with a consistent focus sustainable tourism development.

The event also included a quiz competition and a cultural show by the students of NEHU..
