Youth congress demands recruitment of school teachers

Shilling, April 4: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has asked  state government to speed up the recruitment of school teachers in the state.
MPYC president Timjim K Momin condemned the delay in the recruitment of Lower Primary (LP) and Upper Primary (UP) teachers in Meghalaya.
“Despite multiple assurances from the state government, thousands of Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET)-passed candidates are still awaiting recruitment, while the government schools continue to face severe  shortages of teachers, he said in a statement.
According to the MPYC chief, on January 24 this year, the Education Minister Rakkam Sangma assured that advertisements for teachers’ recruitment would be issued within one or two days.
“However, more than two months have passed, and no recruitment notification has been released. This inaction reflects the government’s failure to  fulfill its promises and address the rising unemployment crisis in the state,” Momin said.
On February 14 this year  the Director of Education, Swapnil Tembe, indicated that
over 500 teaching positions ate vacant in government schools, he said.
The government has taken no concrete steps to fill these vacancies, affecting not just aspiring teachers but also thousands of
students who are being deprived of quality education due to staff shortages, Momin said.
“The MPYC asked the Chief Minister Conrad  Sangma and the Education Department to  issue the recruitment advertisement and begin the hiring process without any delay. “The government’s lack of urgency on this matter raises serious concerns about its commitment to the education sector and the future of Meghalaya’s youth,” he said.
The youth congress leader said the party  stands in solidarity with the people of Meghalaya in demanding a transparent and immediate recruitment process to address both unemployment and the education crisis.
