Shillong, Nov 16: A speeding police escort vehicle hit a biker on the way to Cherry Blossom Festival, on Friday evening killing him and injuring a lady pillion rider.
The police escort vehicle was accompanying Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh.
According to the police, on November 15, information was received at Umiam police station that two persons involved in a road accident were brought to Holycross hospital Umbir .
On enquiry it was ascertained that the bike (ML 05 AD 0566) met with an accident with the police escort vehicle and the bike rider was declared brought dead and the the lady accompanying him survived with minor injuries .
Subsequently a case was registered at Umiam PS case no 108(11)2024 U/S 281/324(1)/106(1) BNS .
‘The police escort vehicle (in picture) involved in the accident has been identified and is being seized . Further legal formalities are being observed as per provisions of law”, police added.
The deceased has been identified as Huddersfield Rymbui (30) from Nongtalang Mission, West Jaintia Hills, while the injured is Daphisha Dkhar( 30) from Madanrting here.
