BJP wants independent probe into council anomalies
Shillong, Nov 4: The BJP said if the audit reports on GHADC and JHADC are not satisfactory, the state government should hand over the probe to an independent agency.
“Till today from the party we are pressurizing the government, if we are not satisfied with the audit report, there should be an independent inquiry by the central agency,” the BJP state president Ernest Mawrie told reporters.
The government had on September 30 last year ordered the Director of Local Fund Audit (DLFA) to conduct audit on expenses by GHADC and JHADC for the past 10 years.
Following the allegations of corruption levelled by the BJP in the implementation of the special assistance grants (SAGs) sanctioned by the Centre in the two councils, the government instituted the probe.
Mawrie said the party wants an independent inquiry since the BJP government in Assam had agreed to hand over the investigation of a similar case in Karbi Anglong district council to the CBI.
