6 Covid deaths in state; 361 new cases

Shillong, Jan 28: The Covid-19 situation has worsened in the state that recorded six deaths on Friday.

The number of positive cases reported on Friday was 361, including 20 healthcare workers. The number of active cases now stands at 2,422.

East Khasi Hills district, which is the worst hit during the pandemic, recorded five of the six deaths and West Garo Hills one, according to the health department.

Of the new positive cases, 182 are in East Khasi Hills, taking the number of active cases to 1,381. The death toll in the district is at 1,032.

West Garo Hills district recorded 88 new cases followed by Ri-Bhoi at 19, West Jaintia Hills at 15 and South West Garo Hills at 13, War said.

Nine new cases were detected in Eastern West Khasi Hills district, seven each in East Jaintia Hills and North Garo Hills district, six each in East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills, five in West Khasi Hills and four in South West Khasi Hills.

Meghalaya also reported 348 recoveries on Friday.

On the other hand, 32,107 healthcare workers have received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, 29,306 have been administered with the second dose and 5,241 have taken the third precaution dose.
