78 Bangladeshis held in border in first quarter of 2025

Shillong, April 24: The Border Security Force Meghalaya Frontier has apprehended 78 Bangladeshi nationals and 37 Indian nationals for their involvement in smuggling and infiltration attempts.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the BSF said during the first quarter of this year, the force apprehended six touts involved in facilitating cross-border movements which further helped police and law enforcement agencies to take action.

During the period, BSF Meghalaya conducted numerous anti-smuggling operations, resulting in the seizure of contraband items and 750 cattle worth around Rs 11.70 crore. The seized items included Yaba tablets, Ganja, liquor, cosmetics, clothing, and other goods destined for illegal transport to Bangladesh.

The BSF also organised 13 blood donation camps and 22 civic action programmes, conducted free health checkups in remote areas and distributed the essential items to needy populations in nearby border villages.

To ensure effective border management, BSF Meghalaya continued its close coordination with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) through field Commander-level meetings to resolve border-related issues, enhance mutual trust, and raise concerns regarding infiltration, smuggling routes, and the movement of criminal elements.
