Shillong, July 10: KHNAM MLA representing North Shillong, Adelbert Nongrum wanted a change in the load shedding timing from 4 am to 7 am and 12 noon to 1 pm instead of 1 am to 5 am.
“It has become very urgent to change the timing of load shedding so that during the dark hours of the night, no criminal is encouraged to take advantage of the situation,” Nongrum said in a statement on Sunday.
According to the MLA, imposing the early morning load shedding has only allowed criminal elements in various parts of Meghalaya to take undue advantage of the situation.
“Indeed there is a direct correlation between early morning load shedding and rise in crime graphs in the state,” he said.
He asked the government to correct the timing so that the crime rate will be brought down.
