Shillong, Sep 25: Local band Summersalt has performed the title song for Hero Indian Super League Football the music video of which was released on September 23.
Kit Shangpliang of Summersalt told Meghalaya Monitor that it was a project on fast track and the music band provided assistance with “melody and rhythm” while the lyrics were provided by Star Sports, the official broadcast partner for the series.
The video of the song, ‘Jahan jahan chalega toh/Saath tere challenge hum (I will be with you wherever you go)”, features Meghalaya and the young footballers of the state.
The 45-second video was shot in five hours, and it was a “whirlwind experience” for the musicians from Shillong, informed Shangpliang. “But our past experiences in working with fast-paced projects helped us cope with the time pressure,” he added.
The ninth season of the league will begin on October 7 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi, Kerala. Day 1 will see Kerala Blasters taking on Emami East Bengal.
Explaining why the video features Meghalaya and northeastern players, Shangpliang said, the region has a different culture in the sport and “the country looks up to the North East when it comes to football”. And reasons are aplenty for this.
The North East has produced footballers, both in men and women categories, who had played at international levels and helped the country win accolades several times.
On the band’s second project in Hindi, Shangpliang said though the band is perceived as a Khasi music band, the artistes have performed in several languages, both national and international. “It is a glorification of an individual identity,” he said about the mass mentality. “We can perform in any language, be it a local song or a Khasi tune translated to another language, in any country,” he added.
