Stage set to elect new AICC president

Mumbai, Oct 16 (UNI): All the preparations have been completed to elect the new president of All India Congress Committee, the polling for which will be held on October 17 (Monday).

The voting will be held here at the headquarters of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, from 10 am to 4 pm. There are two candidates in the fray — Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor.

There is a polling centre at Tilak Bhavan, the headquarters of the State Congress, and 561 representatives of the state will exercise their right to vote at three booths.

Regional election returning officer for this election is former Union minister Pallam Raju and assistant election returning officers are Dinesh Kumar and Narendra Rawat. Krishna Punia has come to Mumbai with ballot boxes.

AICC has issued an identity card with a barcode to those who are regional representative voters. Voters will be able to cast their ballots after showing their both identity card and any other photo proof identity card.

District election officer Raju has appealed to voters to exercise their right to vote by participating in the voting process in large numbers.
