Shillong. Oct 21: Margaret Pathaw from Umsning has won the gold medal in the ‘Master Women 60 kg Left Hand’ category at the 43rd World Arm Wrestling Championship held in Antalya, Turkey.
The 42-year-old mother of three said it was an unexpected win and she barely got time to prepare for the tournament.
“We got about one and a half months to prepare and we were not even sure about government funds… I am from a middle class family and it is always difficult to finance the tours,” said Pathaw, as she divided her time between media interactions and practice.
A first win? No. Pathaw has been playing at national levels and winning medals, but help was not as expected.
