State awaits Centre’s notification on CBI probe into Mukroh incident
Shillong, Dec 6: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has said the state government is awaiting a notification from the Centre for instituting a CBI probe into the Mukroh firing incident on November 22.
“We already met the union home minister Amit Shah and we already insisted and even the government of India has agreed to it. So now we leave it to their initiative when the notification will come out,” Tynsong told reporters on Tuesday.
SIT probe on
He said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by DIG of Eastern Range are already on the job to take action on the FIR lodged regarding the incident.
“They are on the ground recording statements of the witnesses,” he said.
To a question whether any arrest will be taking place soon, the deputy chief minister said, “We have already instructed them (SIT) to fast track the case.”
Venue issue left to the judicial panel
Tynsong said the judicial inquiry commission has been given three months’ time to submit its report to the state government. As far as the difficulty of people from Mukroh to appear before the commission in Shillong is concerned, the deputy chief minister said, “We leave it to the commission themselves. I am sure they understand the difficulty of calling people from Mukroh to Shillong, I think it takes a lot of time. I think the chairman understands.”
