Shillong Dec 28: Suspended Congress MLA from Rambrai-Jyrngam Kimfa S Marbaniang has resigned as MLA before joining the NPP.
Marbaniang handed over his resignation letter to Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh.
Earlier, two more suspended Congress MLAs -Mohendro Rapsang ( West Shillong) and Ampareen Lyngdoh ( East Shillong ) had joined the NPP after resigning as MLAs.
With this, six sitting MLAs have resigned. Those resigned earlier include two NPP MLAs – Benedic R Marak (Raksamgre) and Ferlin CA Sangma (Selsella) and the one AITC MLA HM Shangpliang (Mawsynram).
The effective strength of the 60-member Assembly is now 54.
Other two suspended Congress legislators Mayralborn Syiem (Nongpoh) and PT Sawkmie (Mawlai) are set to resign as MLAs and may join the United Democratic Party (UDP).
