50% reservation for students in National Law University, 100% for permanent faculty
Shillong, May 10: The National Law University ( NLU), Meghalaya will provide 50% reservation for local students as per the state reservation policy and 100 % for permanent faculty posts.
This was conveyed during the press conference on Wednesday on matters related to the admission and courses in National Law University.
Speaking to reporters, Prof. Indrajit Dube, Vice Chancellor, National Law University informed that as 50% of the seats in the university is reserved for the domicile residents of Meghalaya, the students and aspiring lawyers of the state should take advantage of the opportunity and get themselves enrolled.
Besides, there will be 100% reservation for the posts of permanent faculty members.
Dube said the academic session will begin from July this year and the students’ online applications have started from April 21 which will end on May 21 and the admission test is slated on May 28. The merit list will be published on June 9 and classes will begin from July 10.
Dube also informed that for undergraduate courses a total of 60 students will be enrolled, with 20 each in BA LLB, BS LLB and BBA LLB honours and there will be 10 post-graduate students. He said the annual fee structure for the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is much lower than that of private colleges and universities and other national universities.
The courses offered are BA LLB, BS LLB, BBA LLB (all 5 year Dual Degree Law Programmes after Class 12) and Post Graduate Programme in Law (LL.M (Major in Corporate Law).

The university will function from Mayurbhanj Complex, Nongthymmai, Shillong.
Besides Dube, Pravin Bakshi, the Commissioner and Secretary, Education Department and E Kharumnuid, Registrar, High Court of Meghalaya also spoke to the media at the Meghalaya State Judicial Academy, Tapovan Building, Bivar Road, Shillong.
Earlier in April, in collaboration with the National Law University, Meghalaya, the High Court of Meghalaya had conducted an outreach programme to principals, teachers and students of Higher Secondary Schools from East Khasi Hills and adjoining districts at Yojana Bhavan, Main Secretariat Building, Shillong. The programme was graced by Justice Sanjib Banerjee, Chief Justice, High Court of Meghalaya as the Chief Guest and High Court Judges, Justice H S Thangkhiew and Justice W Diengdoh as special guests.
Since the University is new and to attract applications from aspiring lawyers of the state, such outreach programmes will also be held across the state, the chief justice had said.
