MHRC orders probe into pregnant woman’s death
Shillong, June 9: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has ordered an inquiry into the death of a pregnant woman at a primary healthcare centre (PHC) at Dangar in East Khasi Hills district.
A statement issued by the secretary of the MHRC on Wednesday said the commission has taken cognizance of the case filed by the state president of the Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress Joplyn Shylla.
The Mahila Congress has alleged gross negligence and careless attitude of the doctor and the nurses on duty leading to the death of Muny R Marak (28).
Another demand was to remove the NGO running the PHC as it does not comply with the terms and conditions stipulated by the health department.
Shylla also urged the human rights panel to order for ex-gratia to the family of the victim.
MHRC has issued a notice to Chief Secretary MS Rao to conduct an inquiry by an officer of the rank of commissioner and secretary and submit the report to the commission.
