State nurse gets Florence Nightingale award from President

Shillong, June 22: President of India Droupadi Murmu presented the National Florence Nightingale Award, 2022 to Meghalaya nurse  Reliance Pyrngap.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) said many nursing professionals received awards under the same category for 2022 and 2023 at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, on Thursday.

Pyrngap got the award for her dedicated service as she has more than 35 years of service both as an Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife (ANM) and Lady Health Visitor ( LHV).

She has served the communities of Saipung Primary Health Centre and currently is posted at Sunga Community Health Centre, Khliehriat East Jaintia Hills.

She saved many lives of women during complicated childbirth. She has updated herself by attending various Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) programmes at national, state and district levels.

Speaking to PIB Shillong, Pyrngap expressed her happiness as she said, “I am elated and deeply grateful to be given this recognition for my hard work and I try to give a hundred per cent from the beginning till the end of the year,” while adding, “Obviously it is impossible to give a hundred per cent but that does not stop me from working as hard as possible which I feel has resulted in this award.”

“I want to tell my colleagues to continue giving their best in their work and that they too will be recognised for this very important service that we provide to the society,” she added.

Expressing her gratitude to the Government of India and the Government of Meghalaya for selecting her for this honour, Pyrngap said, “This is the government’s recognition of my hard work.”

Health & Family Welfare Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh congratulated  Pyrngap on her prestigious achievement, as she expressed, “I extend our heartfelt appreciation and warmest congratulations to Ms. Reliance Pyrngap, Lady Health Visitor from Sutnga CHC, East Jaintia Hills, for receiving the prestigious National Florence Nightingale Award. This well-deserved recognition highlights her exceptional contributions as a nursing professional and symbolises the dedication and hard work she has exhibited in rendering healthcare services to the people”. Referring to the government’s commitment in recognising hard work, Ampareen said, “We honour Ms. Reliance Pyrngap and all the health providers who selflessly serve society, improving lives and making a lasting impact.Her commitment and compassion inspire us all, and the government expresses its sincere gratitude for her invaluable contributions to the field of healthcare”, she said.

The National Florence Nightingale Award was instituted by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 1973 as a mark of recognition for meritorious services rendered by the nurses and nursing professionals to the society.
