A division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharya gave the direction while hearing multiple pleas, including the one by the victim’s parents seeking an investigation transfer to an independent agency. The court expressed concerns over the progress of the investigation under the state police, the bench observed.

The court also weighed heavily on the West Bengal government’s ” insensitivity” towards the protesting doctors for appointing the former Principal of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital Sandip Ghosh in another government hospital. The High Court directed Ghosh to go on leave or else the court would pass an order.

A Division bench of Calcutta High Court headed by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam while hearing a batch of PILs, including that of bereaved parents of the murdered postgraduate female doctor seeking a court-monitored CBI probe, described the crime as “gruesome”, and asked the government what assurances it has given to the protesting doctors.
