Shillong, Mar 3: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Monday did not provide any timeline to upgrade Laskein to civil sub-division and remained vague by saying the government would “seriously examine” the proposal.
Tynsong was replying to a question by UDP Mowkaiaw legislator Nujorki Sungoh during the Budget Session 2025.
When the latter pointed out that the government’s reply had remained unchanged since 2018, Tynsong said, “There is no such specific timeline, but let the government examine the proposal. We are going to examine the issue very seriously.”
The minister said the government wrote to all departments in 2021 seeking details for the creation of the civil sub-division. “A few departments submitted (the reports), but most of them are yet to submit the detailed report,” he added.
Earlier, Sungoh said Laskein fulfilled the criteria to be upgraded to civil sub-division. It has 1.25 lakh population as per the Aadhaar enrolment, 15,000 households and covers a 500 sq km area.
