
Shillong, April 23: Police registered a case of abduction for murder after recovering the body of a 27-year-old woman from North Garo Hills in Assam.
North Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Pawar Swapnil said on Wednesday that on April 22, the female body in a decomposing condition was spotted by some villagers on a drain near the paddy field at Khas Rangsi village, Assam, near the inter-state border of Meghalaya and Assam and the matter was reported to Dainadubi police outpost.
Based on the information, the officer in-charge Dainadubi police outpost went to the spot along with village elders after informing the matter to his Assam counterpart and verification of the spot was done along with Assam Police .The body was shifted for conducting post mortem examination
Later, the family members identified the body.
Earlier, in the evening hours of April 20, a written missing report was submitted to women police station at Mendipathar by the relatives that she went out from home on April 19 around 5.PM taking two wheeler but did not return and her phone was switched off.
Police hope to make a breakthrough.
