Shillong, July 8: Meghalaya State Human Rights Commission has sought a report on the assault incident in Sohra police station.
The mother of 19-year-old Getwin Jyrwa Mildred Jyrwa had filed a complaint on Monday with the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, and the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) narrating human rights violations and physical abuse of her son by police personnel at the Sohra police station.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Chairman of Meghalaya State Human Rights Commission T Vaiphei said that the commission took cognizance of the matter and sought report from the East Khasi Hills SP on or before July 31.
“After going through the complaint, we are of the considered view that some prima facie of violation of the human rights of Getwin Jyrwa appears to be made out for inquiry by the Commission. However, before making such inquiry, we deem it prudent to seek a report to this effect from the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District”, the commission said in its order issued by chairperson Vaiphei and member T Nongpluh, on July 8.
