Shillong, Sept 15: Police on Monday formed a Special Investigation Team ( SIT) to probe the death of a four-year-old girl, who went missing on September 14.
Her body was recovered on Monday.
East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem told reporters that a murder case will be registered.
Postmortem was carried out in NEIGRIHMS, and the report is awaited.
The SIT will be headed by City SP Herbert Kharkongor and to be monitored by the SP.
Earlier, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma stressed the need for a probe to ascertain the cause of death
“Deeply anguished to learn about the tragic death of 4-year-old Insaphira Lyngdoh Mawnai, who went missing from her residence in Nongrah early yesterday morning. Her mortal remains were recovered today under circumstances suggesting a suspected homicide. Have directed @MeghalayaPolice to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice without delay,” the chief minister wrote in his X post.
