Police identify suspect in IED case

Shillong, Oct 13: Police identified a suspect involved in planting an IED in front of a bank in Ri Bhoi.
According to police, around 7.30 pm on Sunday, information was received that there was an abandoned bag containing suspected explosives inside an unidentified compound located in Umsning market.
Based on the input, the Ri-Bhoi police team launched an operation and detected the bag inside a compound located in front of the Meghalaya Rural Bank.
Later, the bomb disposal squad and K-9 team were requisitioned. They confirmed that the abandoned bag contained explosives, and later, the IED was successfully diffused.
On analysis, it was found that the IED was made using 4.7 Kg gelatine as an explosive, 10 detonators, and around 50 iron rod pieces as splinters.
All the materials were seized.
“There was no loss of life or property during the operation. The case is being registered, and an investigation is going on. One suspect has been identified and the team is on the job to arrest him”, police said.
