Manipur CM allays fear of Kuki-Zo citizens visiting Imphal
Imphal, Feb 9 (NNN): Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh stated that his government would take responsibility for the safety of the people belonging to the Kuki-Zo community who visit Imphal, including medical treatment.
The statement was made on Monday during the relaunching programme of a major road development project at Langthabal in Imphal West.
Ever since the May 3, 2023, incident, the Kuki-Zo community cannot enter the valley area, while the Meitei community cannot go to the hills in Manipur.
Notably, ever since he became the chief minister of Manipur a few days ago, Yumnam Khemchand has been consistently trying to bridge the gap between the Meiteis and the Kuki-Zo community.
It can be mentioned here that, on Sunday, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh received Kuki-Zo MLA Vungzagin Valte at Imphal Airport. He interacted with Valte’s family members and wished him a speedy recovery. “Pu Valte, please come back after you have fully recovered. I will wait for your return,” said Khemchand Singh.
His health condition deteriorated on Saturday, following which he was rushed to the Churachandpur Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU for stabilisation, the report also said.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh monitored Valte’s health throughout the night and sent an advanced life-support ambulance along with a team of doctors from Imphal to Churachandpur around midnight, an official report said.
Khemchand arranged an air ambulance for Valte, which took off from Imphal Airport to Delhi on Sunday evening.
