
Shillong, Feb 11: The District Magistrate of East Jaintia Hills District Manish Kumar has ordered the dismantling of lifting cranes and other machinery at the Mynsngat-Thangsko coal mine site following the explosion that killed 31 workers.
The order, issued under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, permits the dismantling of unlawful obstructions, including coal lifting cranes and tents, from the site of the recent explosion that claimed over 31 lives.
“The lifting cranes and others are creating public nuisance and are hazardous to the public,” the order said.
The machinery may be used for illegal coal extraction, which has been banned by the National Green Tribunal since 2014, he said.
The dismantling process will be carried out under the supervision of the Investigating Officer, with proper documentation and geo-tagging of the site.
The District Magistrate has directed the Superintendent of Police to ensure the order is executed immediately.and after dismantling or removal and geo-tagging of the place with proper GPS coordinates shall be maintained by the Inquiry Officer,” the district magistrate said.
The entire process shall be properly documented and submitted in the form of an Action Taken Report (ATR) at the earliest, the DC said.
