Judicial probe panel on coal to look into nexus

Inspector General to head Special Investigation Team

Shillong, March 4: The state government has added one more term of reference for the judicial inquiry commission to probe the coal mine incident in Mynsngat-Thangsko.

According to the notification issued on March 3, the commission should examine the nexus between the demand for and supply of illegally mined coal in  Meghalaya and the role of such persons, or authority, non-state groups including Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and to recommend measures for strengthening institutional mechanisms, fixing accountability and preventing recurrence.

The government was adhering to the order of the High Court of Meghalaya.

Based on the order of the court, the government also notified that Inspecter General of Police Davis Marak will head the Special Investigation Team probing the coal mining incident. Other members are the same as notified earlier.
