Mawsynram MLA concerned over elephant rampage
BSF, villagers take initiatives to prevent infiltration

Shillong, March 24: UDP legislator Olan Sing Suin wanted the government to address the elephant rampage in his Mawsynram constituency.
A herd of five wild elephants has been causing damage to crops and dwelling houses for over a year.
Speaking to the journalists on Tuesday, Suin said, “There has been a wild elephant rampage in my constituency, with the herd causing significant damage to standing crops and a few dwelling houses. I have reported the issue to the concerned department and raised it in the assembly. I have also met with the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests this week to push for measures to drive the elephants out of the area.”
He wante the constituency to be considered under the elephant project.
To a question, the UDP legislator lauded the efforts of the Border Security Force (BSF) and local population in effectively curbing infiltration in the Mawsynram constituency.
Suin said, “There have been few cases of infiltration in recent months, but the BSF has taken prompt action, arresting and pushing back those involved. I attribute this success to the vigilance of the BSF and the cooperation of the local population. The village people are working closely with the authorities, providing valuable support in identifying and preventing potential threats.”
