BJP a champion of women’s cause: Party leader

Shillong, April 20: The BJP leader in-charge Meghalaya Anil Antony criticised the opposition parties and projected the BJP as the champion of women’s cause.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Antony said that what played out in Parliament on April16 and 17 was shocking as the parties such as Congress, TMC, DMK and Samajwadi party have revealed their medieval mindset where a woman can have absolutely no right or power. They have betrayed half the country’s population – its women.
According to the BJP leadership, the Prime Minister, in his televised address, vowed to continue the fight for women reservation until it becomes a reality.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said the falsehood of the Opposition was exposed and clarified that delimitation will not harm any state.
The Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, the Delimitation Bill, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) are aimed at ensuring a democratic future and enhanced women’s participation in legislature, he said.
A separate statement issued by the state BJP said that the Congress with its comrades – TMC, DMK and Samajwadi Party, dashed the hopes and aspirations of half the country’s population.
‘Every woman in this country has been betrayed by a self-serving group which refuses to come out of their medieval mind set; a mind set that simply refuses to accept women as equal partners. Yet again these parties have got together to commit an unpardonable sin against the women of Meghalaya and the country, a sin which will neither be forgotten nor forgiven”,said the state BJP leadership.
Besides Antony, state secretaries Suki Pariat, Daniella Nonglait andbAnzie Sangma, Arena Hyynetwa, Mahila Morcha President Priyambada Blah, District President East Khasi Hills and Deeya Rathore.
