New Shillong water supply project cost increases to Rs 770 crore
Project cost of Jongksha revised from Rs 22.75 cr to Rs 35.40 cr

Shillong, May 5: Cabinet has approved the revised estimate of New Shillong Water Supply Scheme (Phase I).
The revised estimate for the Shillong Township Water Supply Scheme has been increased from Rs 553 crore to Rs 770 crore. This revision is primarily due to the relocation of the proposed dam site further upstream, necessitated by the development of a scientific landfill at Nonghali.
Additionally, the enhanced cost accounts for the provision of dedicated electrical lines and expenses related to land acquisition, ensuring the project’s long-term sustainability and efficiency.
Cabinet has also approved the escalation of cost of Sports Infrastructure. Earlier, any cost escalation was routed through the Finance Department for approval. However, the cabinet has now decided that any escalation exceeding 25% must be placed before the cabinet for approval. In this case, the Indoor Stadium at Jongksha has seen a significant revision due to multiple factors. Initially planned at Pomlakrai, the project was later shifted to a new location. Additionally, with the upcoming National Games, the scope and requirements of the project have expanded. The built-up area has increased from 12,031 square metres to 15,417 square metres, leading to a substantial enhancement in the overall scope of work. Consequently, the project cost has been revised from Rs 22.75 crore to Rs 35.40 crore.
