Govt to move Centre on zero-line residents

Shillong, June 12: The state government will move the Union Home Ministry to address the issues concerning the border residents who are close to Bangladesh villages.

Recently, the villagers of Lyngkhong under Pynursla moved the district administration to ensure that the fencing is constructed along the zero line.

According to the international norm, fencing should be at least 150 yards from the zero line.

On Friday (June 12), Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong held a meeting with the BSF and the officials here.

An official source said the matter will be discussed with union home ministry

The meeting decided to move the Centre for the construction of the fencing along the zero line.

Before that, a joint inspection will be carried out by the BSF and the officials.

Tynsong directed the BSF and the district officials to have a joint inspection and to come up with a comprehensive report, the source added.

Besides East Khasi Hills, the similar situation persists in West Jaintia Hills.
