Simon Joseph remembered for contribution to education & social service

Shillong, June 12: People from all walks of life paid tribute to Simon Joseph (58), the founder and principal of St George Higher Secondary School, Nongmensong, here.

Simon passed away on Thursday (June) at NEIGRIHMS (June 11) after a brief illness.

His mortal remains were kept at the school on Friday ( June 12) for the people to pay the last respects.

Teachers, students, the malayalee community and the members of Kalakairali in the city prayed for the departed soul at the school.

Later on Friday night, the mortal remains were taken to Guwahati for the onward journey to Ernakulam, Keralam for the funeral on June 14 .

The school run by Simon had produced toppers in both SSLC and HSSLC.

He was instrumental in bringing musician AR Rahman to the school a few years ago.

Condolence of All India Malayalee  Association (AIMA)

The death of Simon, Secretary, AIMA Meghalaya, was condoled by the parent body.

“A native of Paingottoor in Ernakulam District, Keralam, Shri Simon Joseph dedicated his entire life to the noble causes of education and social service. For more than three decades, he served as the guiding force behind St. George School, Shillong, transforming it into a respected institution of learning and character building. His unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds and instilling values of integrity, compassion, and excellence earned him the admiration of students, parents, and the wider community..Beyond his remarkable contributions to education, Shri Simon Joseph was a committed social worker who tirelessly worked for the welfare of society. His selfless service, humility, and willingness to help others made him a beloved figure among all who had the privilege of knowing him. As secretary of AIMA Meghalaya, he played an active role in strengthening the organisation and promoting its vision of service, unity, and community development. His dedication, leadership, and sincere efforts will always be remembered with gratitude and respect”, the AIMA said in a statement.
