Govt sanctions over Rs 100 crore to improve schools
Shillong, Sept 17: The government has provided Rs 109 crore to improve over 191 schools in the state.
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui informed this in Assembly on Friday while replying to a question by Congress legislator HM Shangpliang.
Rymbui said out of the 191 schools to be taken up, 10 are secondary and higher secondary schools, 4 are upper primary schools and 3 lower primary schools.
“The Rs 109 crore sanctioned from the state scheme will ensure these schools are not only provided with buildings but will also basic furniture..we will try to improve,” Rymbui said. Shangpliang had expressed concern over the delay to repair the government schools which are in dilapidated condition.
According to Rymbui, the government has sanctioned Rs 8.20 lakh for additional classroom for Phlangwanroy government LP school and Rs 10 lakh for Lalpani LP government.
He also informed that two government LP schools under Mawsynram block have been approved from 2018 till date for construction of new school building under the state scheme.
