Tura MDC takes up water woes of town
Shillong, Oct 10: The RTI query by Tura BJP MDC Bernard Marak on water crisis in Tura has remained unanswered which compelled him to carry out spot visits.
In a statement, Marak said the non-existence of water sources has affected the implementation of Tura water supply scheme Phase II and Phase III. All pipe lines in Tura originally come from the phase I project which was under GHADC. Marak revealed that the RTI query filed through Deputy Commissioner’s office seeking information on implementation of Tura town water supply scheme worth around Rs 35 crore and information on implementation of phase I, II and III water projects remained unanswered even after due date.
Files missing
He said unofficial information received from some officers confirmed that the files of phase I went missing while other details were not on record which include the main pipe lines. The original distribution lines of GHADC under water works department were also unofficially taken over while GHADC is in dilemma over the disconnections of its own lines. Chief Executive Member has been apprised of this matter and has been requested to look into the matter as water supplies are being disconnected from the GHADC by the state department causing inconvenience to the public. Implementation of all schemes are distributed from the phase- I source which originally was under GHADC but now GHADC is indebted to the PHE department some crores of rupees as claimed by PHE, Marak said.
“There seems to be some major deals made without the knowledge of the GHADC Executive Committee. Even Jal Jeevan Mission projects are supplied water from the same tanks which presently supply water to the residents of Tura which has resulted in water shortage in the town area”, he said.
