Shillong,Aug 20: The All India Congress Committee is planning legal action against the three Congress MLAs-Celestine Lyngdoh (Umsning), Charles Marngar( Mawhati) and Gabriel Wahlang(Nongstoin) who joined the NPP.
“They were elected in 2023 on anti-government sentiments, now how can they join the same government”, the AICC leader in-charge Meghalaya A Chellakumar said on phone on Tuesday.
“The MLAs, who left us have cheated the voters”, he added.
On the course of action, the AICC leader said the party has already suspended two MLAs and it is illegal for the suspended MLAs to join another party.
“We will pursue the matter legally”, the AICC leader said, adding he will visit Shillong shortly.
The party is likely to file a petition in the High Court of Meghalaya and if the order is not favourable, the party may move the Supreme Court, the AICC media coordinator Mathew Antony said.
Prior to the legal steps, the Congress will seek the opinion of all the bock and district party leaders in a meeting to be held on Thursday on the next course of action against the three MLAs who left the party on Monday.
While the the party suspended Marngar and Wahlang, no action was taken against the third MLA Celestine Lyngdoh.
The state party president Vincent Pala said the party could not take action against Celestine last week, as he had attended the meeting of the party.
However, the AICC sources said in the event of legal action, it will be against all the three MLAs.
