“Represent state government on national and international events/meetings/committees as per desire of the state government,” the notification on the appointment said.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a minor reshuffle of her six months old third ministry kept the state finance department, which was under Mr Mitra in the first two governments from 2011.

Due to old age, Mitra did not contest the 2021 poll.
