Ampareen seeks report on girl’s death in NEIGRIHMS

Shillong, Jan 25: Health and Family Welfare Ampareen Lyngdoh has sought a report on the death of a 23-year-old patient at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).
The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has demanded an independent inquiry into the matter .
In a letter to the Meghalaya Medical Council (MMC), KHNAM working president Thomas Passah said, “…we strongly demand that an independent inquiry be constituted on the incident that occurred at NEIGRIHMS causing the death of a 23 year old girl.”
The demand came after a video went viral on January 24, alleging a 23-year-old girl died due to medical negligence of NEIGRIHMS.
“I had sought a full report on the incident,” Ampareen Lyngdoh said while refusing to comment further on the matter until the report is submitted by the NEIGRIHMS authority.
The action is after family members of the patient, who passed away on January 24, had allegedly held the hospital for medical negligence. They had claimed that the surgery was performed on the patient without obtaining consent or informing them about the nature of the sickness.
