Ankit Das surrenders in Lakhimpur violence case

Lucknow, Oct 13(UNI): After SIT issued summons to appear before it for recording his statement, Ankit Das, nephew of former Union Minister Akhilesh Das, who was accused in the Lakhimpur violence case, surrendered before police on Wednesday.

Ankit was arrested along with his driver Latif.

After their arrest, they were taken to the crime branch office in Police Lines.

After the minister’s son Ashish Mishra Monu was arrested in the Lakhimpur violence case, Shekhar Bharti, the driver of his friend Ankit Das, was arrested by the SIT on Tuesday.

Apart from this, farmers have named 15 unknown people along with Ashish Mishra Monu in the case.

Around 10.15 am on Wednesday, Lucknow contactor Ankit Das reached Lakhimpur along with several lawyers and appeared before the SIT in the police line. After some time, the SIT arrested him considering him as an accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri case.

The SIT interrogated Ankit Das for several hours, and then he was arrested.

In several videos that went viral in the Lakhimpur Kheri case, it was reported that Das, a friend of Ashish Mishra Monu, was also present in the convoy which crushed the farmers.

SIT was searching for him and had raided in Lucknow for his arrest.

On the other hand, the prosecution has filed an application in the CJM court to take Das’s another driver Shekhar Bharti on police remand, who was arrested earlier.

Sources said after hearing the arguments of both the sides, the CJM has reserved the decision.

So far, six people, including Union Minister’s son Ashish Mishra Monu have been arrested and about half a dozen more people are yet to be arrested in this case.
