Bangladesh won’t’ host the SAF championship

Dhaka, Jul 23 (UNI) The SAF Football Championship, which was originally scheduled to start from August 30 in Bangladesh, will not be played in the country owing to lack of sponsors and corona situation.

The new time of SAF football, which has moved away from Bangladesh, has been fixed in the first week of October. Apart from India, two other countries have also verbally applied for the new venue.

However, the decision has not been finalized yet. SAF general secretary Alowarul Haque Helal told the media after the meeting, “All SAF countries want SAF football. Everyone agrees that FIFA will host the game on time next October. The league will be played with five countries. One of the three countries will be selected for the venue. After that everything will be finalized by meeting. ‘

Bangladesh was also the organizer of the competition in 2018. Usually two events are not held twice in a row in one country. But Bangladesh wanted to organize the event in 2020 on the occasion of the centenary of Bangabandhu’s birth. BFF also got the organizing rights.

Last year, the competition was supposed to be held on the field. But the coronavirus claw was postponed for a year due to a global epidemic.
