Jhimli Mukherjee met with an accident in Jaisalmer

Kolkata, Dec 30 (UNI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday condoled the death of senior journalist Jhimli Mukherjee Pandey.

The 49-year-old senior assistant editor of The Times of India, Kolkata, died in a road accident near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan on Wednesday.

Her son and mother, who were traveling with her, sustained injuries too, but were now out of danger.

The accident took place when a car rammed into their taxi, which skidded before careening off the road.

Mukherjee, seated right behind the driver, bore the brunt of the impact. She had worked in the organisation for over two decades, covering education, communities and heritage with distinction.

Her demise has caused an irreparable loss to journalism, said the chief minister, who conveyed her heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.

Press Club, Kolkata, also expressed shock at Jhimli’s death.
