‘Both the states to maintain natural boundary in EJH’

Shillong,Jan 22: Though Assam wants to claim rights over Malidor river in East Jaintia Hills, the regional comittee dealing with border dispute in the district proposed that the authority over the river shall be taken up by both the states on their own side and it may be used only for domestic purpose and not for commercial purpose, as it will lead to soil erosion and other environmental hazards to the river.

The final report of the committee headed by Cabinet Minister Sniawbhalang  Dhar reminded about  the last meeting held at Khanapara, Guwahati on December  22 last  wherein the Assam counterpart had agreed to the proposed demarcation as per the map enclosed but demanded that the rights over the river be given to the Assam government. ‘On this, it may be stated that the Malidor river being the natural boundary, it may be proposed that the authority over the river shall be taken up by both the states on their own side and it may be used only for domestic purposes and not for commercial purpose, as that  may lead to soil erosion and other environmental hazards to the river”, the report said.
