BSF continues sugar seizure in border
Shillong, Apr 3: The BSF Meghalaya foiled sugar smuggling plan and seized more than 70,000 kg besides apprehending three Indian nationals in international border.
In a statement, the BSF said on April 2, the vigilant troops of 181 Bn BSF Meghalaya along with Meghalaya police intercepted three vehicles loaded with a huge quantity of sugar meant for smuggling into Bangladesh and also apprehended Indian nationals near the Gasuapara bordering area under South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.
Based on specific information, the BSF troops along with Meghalaya police planned a special operation and laid a nobile check post (MCP) near Gasuapara and intercepted three vehicles loaded with more than 70,000 kg of sugar. Upon questioning, all the three drivers failed to produce valid documents about the consignment of sugar. The seized items and apprehended persons were handed over to the Gasuapara police station.
In the first quarter of the current year, the troops of BSF Meghalaya seized around 1188 tons of sugar intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh through the International border of Meghalaya.
