BSF moves towards use of advanced technology to guard border

Shillong, May 1: The BSF has replaced first generation floodlights with advanced ones in Meghalaya border.

In a media interaction at BSF headquarters in Umpling, the BSF IG Meghalaya Frontier OP Upadhay said deployment of additional manpower and equipment including night vision devices are helping to strengthen security along 400 km border .

Besides, deployment of the electronic surveillance of vulnerable patches (ESVP) in around 32 kms of the border belts will  take place  soon.

Replying to a question on Bangladesh situation and the Pahalgam terror attack, Upadhyay said, “As usual, if any incident takes place in the vicinity or the country, there is a requirement of having enhanced level of security and vigilance. So, accordingly we have enhanced our security and vigilance and we are ready for any eventuality. There is no problem as such.”
He said Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras have been installed in view of the recent development.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has recently sanctioned a very good surveillance scheme especially electronic surveillance of vulnerable patches (ESVP) which will cover roughly around 32 kms of the border belts.”
Presence of militant groups 
Regarding the movement of insurgent groups along the Indo-Bangla border, Upadhyay said the BSF do not have any information about such kinds of groups operating through the soil of Meghalaya or across the soil of Meghalaya.
“Nevertheless, we are alert and keeping a watch over the development and is there such any incident or any such report is forthcoming, we will take action accordingly as per the merit of the inputs and information,”he said.
On the presence of militant camps belonging to banned outfits including HNLC in Bangladesh, the BSF IG said, “I think infront of Meghalaya, I don’t think any such information is available about the insurgents but we are keeping vigil and in case anything is reported, we will take action accordingly.”
