Shillong, May 1: Cabinet has approved the Meghalaya Vehicle Scrappage Policy 2025. The policy aims at creating an ecosystem for phasing out unfit and polluting vehicles from the State roads and will address environmental concerns by reducing air pollution caused by old and inefficient vehicles.
Briefing reporters, Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh said to start with, Government vehicles of 15 years and above, approximately 5000 numbers will be scrapped and off the roads. Private-owned vehicles of 35 years and above, approximately 8000 numbers will be scrapped as per the Policy.
Cabinet also approved the proposal for creation of the post of a Director of Civil Defence in the Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guard.
Lyngdoh said, “In the Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guards, we have decided to amend their service rules to facilitate the creation of the post of Director of Civil Defence which is now being handled by Commandant General of Home Guards.”
“We have decided that in order to upscale the performance of the department of civil defense and home guards, a post of Director of Civil Defence will now be deemed as a seperate post and we will incorporate this post to also facilitate the promotion of Joint Directors, who have served for a period of not less than 3 years to be upgraded to the post of Director of Civil Defense. This will also motivate officers, who have acquired and experience and knowledge during their long tenure of service in the department,” he said
Meghalaya Ayush Medical Service Rules
Lyngdoh said traditional system of medicines like Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Yoga, Naturopathy have all gained attraction and are also being adopted by people as an alternative to current medical practices.
Accordingly, the government has decided to have service rules in place and it will be called Meghalaya Ayush Medical Service Rules, 2025, he added.
