Shillong, Sep 12: The cabinet on Tuesday scrapped Kynshi-I and Upper Khri I & II hydel power projects.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma told reporters that the decision was made looking into the financial viability and high cost of the projects.
The MoU for Kynshi Stage-I (270 MW) was signed in 2007 and Upper Khri Stage-I (15MW), and Upper Khri Stage-II (10MW) projects were signed in 2013.
According to the chief minister, new technology will be used in implementing the projects and it is open for the private power players to again sign fresh agreements.
The two projects were in collaboration with private parties but due to financial non-viability of the projects & delay in implementation by the companies, the cabinet made the decision to terminate the projects. The government will immediately move for new partnerships with a new format to implement the projects, the chief minister said.
