Shillong, May 8: Church bells tolled here at 10.55 pm as Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected as the new Pope Leo XIV.
69-year-old Prevost is the first American to become Pope.

Soon after the announcement was made at Sistine Chapel, Vatican Rome, the bells at Catholic churches across Shillong tolled expressing solidarity.
